World Water Day Forum 2025: A Resounding Success!
On March 18, 2025, SEAWA, in partnership with Medicine Hat College (MHC), proudly hosted the World Water Day Forum in the Big Eagle Room at MHC. This engaging and informative event brought together experts, students, and community members to discuss critical water-related topics, making it a tremendous success!


A Day of Knowledge and Collaboration.
The event began at 10:00 AM with a warm welcome from Ryan Davidson, Executive Director of SEAWA, and Elizabeth Pennefather-O’Brien, Instructor in the Science Department at MHC. They officially opened the forum, setting the stage for a day of insightful discussions.


Following the opening, Torill Hutchinson, Associate Dean of Arts at MHC, greeted the audience on behalf of the college, emphasizing the importance of water-related research and awareness.

Inspiring Speakers & Engaging Discussions
The forum featured a mix of in-person and online presentations, allowing for broader participation and knowledge sharing.
✅ Shannon Frank (Online) – Executive Director, Oldman Watershed Council
• Topic: Answering Frequently Asked Questions About Coal Mining • After her informative presentation, attendees had 15 minutes for questions and discussion.

✅ Dr. Peter Wallis – Owner, Hyperion Research Ltd., Ph.D., University of Waterloo
• Topic: What Is Water Quality?
• His thought-provoking session explored key aspects of water quality, followed by an engaging Q&A session.
After these two outstanding presentations, attendees enjoyed a lunch break at 12:00pm, providing an opportunity for networking and further discussions.

At 1:00pm, the forum resumed with two more exceptional speakers:
✅ Dr. Éowyn Campbell – Eastern Slope Rivers Project, University of British Columbia Okanagan
• Topic: The Bow River – Where Does the Water Come From?
• Her presentation captivated the audience, followed by 15 minutes for questions and comments.

✅ Jasmine Benoy – Student, Sustainable Innovation Diploma, MHC
• Topic: Water Treatment with Duckweed
• Jasmine’s research on using Duckweed for water treatment was both innovative and inspiring, sparking great discussions during the Q&A session.

Closing Remarks & Looking Ahead
At the end of the forum, Ron Linowski, SEAWA’s Chairman, closed the event by thanking the speakers and audience for their participation. He highlighted the importance of continued collaboration and invited all to join SEAWA—whether as a Board Member, volunteer, donor, or supportive stakeholder—to contribute to future events and projects.
The World Water Day Forum 2025 was a fantastic opportunity to learn, share, and connect around the crucial topic of water conservation and management.
